Uphold the Rights of Nature and People

The ZAMBASULI leg of SaLakYag 2023 commenced today at the Our Lady of Lourdes in the town of Kabasalan in Zamboanga Sibugay. The event kicked off with a discussion on the current state of the environment, followed by presentations on the Laudato Si Encyclical and the Rights of Nature. A pledge of commitment from participants to protect, respect, and fulfill the rights of both humans and nature were also achieved.
The Salakyag also aims to call people in Mindanao to help pass the Rights of Nature bills in congress and file local RoN ordinances to protect ecosystems in their province.
The objectives of Salakyag Mindanao (ZAMBASULI cluster) are the following:
1.To raise and discuss environmental issues in their region through the Salakyag
2.To call on the People in Mindanao to be aware of the ecological and climate crisis and the need to take urgent action
3.To support and help pass the Rights of Nature bills in Congress and file local RoN ordinances for the protection of ecosystems in their region and country.
Following the launch in Kabasalan, the SaLakYag team will travel to Dipolog and Pagadian for subsequent legs of their journey. The Dipolog, Ozamis, Pagadian, Iligan, Marawi (DOPIM), Kidapawan, Marbel, Cotabato (KIDMACO), Davao Region Cluster (DRC), and Cagayan, Butuan, Surigao, Tandag, Malaybalay (CABUSTAM) clusters are set to begin their SaLakYag journey on October 3, 2023.
