A Forum on the 2023 Barangay and SK Elections

Over 150 people recently attended Philippine Misereor Partnership Inc (PMPI) election forum called BARANGAY AT SK ELECTION 2023.

 

Held last October 11, community leaders and aspirants from Barangays Holy Spirit, Batasan Hills, Commonwealth, Bagong Silang, and Payatas attended this timely election and learning forum organized by PMPI clusters at the National Capital Region (National and Urban), and in partnership with the People’s Consultative Council of NGC East and West.

 

During the event, Atty. Irene Pua, PMPI Project Officer provided an overview of the functions of the barangay and sangguniang kabataan. This was followed by the discussion on the manner of voting from Comelec District 2 Election Assistant, Noel Temones Jr. and a presentation on the Comelec’s Kontra Bigay Task Force from the Acting Election Officer, Jovilmar Igne.

 

The open forum also gave the audience the chance to raise their questions and concerns regarding the elections and the electoral process. A significant learning during the forum is that although there are concerns about the COMELEC processes, we as citizens, must not disregard our responsibilities to ensure that we can fully exercise our right to vote.

 

Ms. Malu Cenero of Upholding Life and Nature (ULAN) also talked about the importance of accessible polling places for vulnerable voters. The event also provided an opportunity for the voters to raise their concerns, learn more about their rights and responsibilities as voters, and prepare for the upcoming barangay and SK Elections.
