“Empowering the Earth: Embracing the Rights of Nature for a Sustainable Future”
In a proactive stride towards nurturing a greener and more sustainable future, Mt. Carmel College of San Francisco Inc. in Surigao del Sur recently held a symposium entitled “Empowering the Earth: Embracing the Rights of Nature for a Sustainable Future” to introduce to their students their crucial role in safeguarding our environment today.
The Rights of Nature, championed by PMPI National Coordinator, Ms. Yolanda Esguerra, enlightened and educated more than 900 students, teachers and school administrators about the critical state of our ecosystems and the urgency to unite for a transformative action to protect it.
The event must have been an eye-opener for the young minds and the administration as the Social Science Club of the school promised to take on the Rights of Nature as their primary concern and the President of the school Fr Gabby Dolotina, immediately declared policy changes, specially on selling of plastic water bottles in school. Indeed recognizing the environment’s inherent rights demands immediate action to protect it.
Held last August 23 at Mt Carmel College of San Francisco Inc. in Surigao del Sur, a welcome address was given by Rev. Fr. Gabriel D. Dolotina, O Carm and a special community dance was performed by the 1st year students of Social Studies Students.
