Statement Regarding the December 3 Bombing at the Mindanao State University

 

We, the Philippine Misereor Partnership Incorporated (PMPI), are deeply saddened and outraged by the senseless and brutal attack that took place at the Mindanao State University (MSU) Marawi campus on December 3, 2023.

 

We strongly condemn this act of violence that claimed the lives of at least three people and injured dozens more, including students, faculty, staff, and security personnel of MSU. It is much more gravely concerning that this brutality happened amidst the celebration of the Mindanao Week of Peace.

 

We extend our heartfelt condolences and prayers to the families and friends of the victims, and we express our solidarity and support to the MSU community in this time of grief.

 

We call on the authorities to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation into this incident. 

 

We also urge the government to ensure the safety and security of all educational institutions and to protect the rights and welfare of all learners, educators, and workers in the country.

 

We appeal to all sectors of society to join us in denouncing this heinous crime and in promoting a culture of peace, dialogue, and respect among all peoples. We pray that God will grant us the strength and wisdom to overcome this tragedy and to work together for the common good of our nation.
