We, at PMPI join our brothers and sisters in the call to provide protection of environment human rights defenders in the country and we strongly urge the immediate and safe release of Jhed and Jonila back to their families.
We stand behind all endeavors to guarantee the full protection of their rights and their right to due legal proceedings. Moreover, we also call for a thorough investigation into the involvement of the AFP and NTF ELCAC in the abduction and enforced disappearance of these two development workers who were only helping small communities uphold their rights.
Jhed and Jonila should not face harassment and persecution for their efforts to address the escalating environmental challenges that we all must confront. As the climate crisis intensifies, especially in impoverished and vulnerable nations, the more we should offer support to environmental human rights defenders in their crucial work to fight for both the protection of nature and humans.
